You can call me Tartaglia. The pleasure's all mine.
[He gives a friendly smile back, before surveying over the edge of the lake. With Rui here, this should be a piece of cake. Easiest money he'll of made here so far.]
With the introductions now out of the way, shall we? I really am constantly in awe of a lot of the marvelous things this world has to offer- something like this isn't exactly available to the public back where I'm from.
Really? I find they're rather handy, which is why I end up making so many of them.
But you're right, let the show begin~
[He pilots the drone with his remote control long enough to get it in the air, and get the attention of the wasps. Once he's sure its's working, he switches it to auto pilot and watches the drone lead the wasps away.]
We should be good to collect all the pollen we want now. When we're done I'll have the lid close and call it back.
[He pulls out his first jar and gets to work collecting pollen.]
[Makes them? That's interesting, he wouldn't of pegged Rui as someone who makes these machines. But all sorts of people have hidden talents, don't they? Never judge someone by their cover.
Tartaglia looks on while the drone goes to work, collecting up all those wasps and getting them to follow the scent of the sugar water away from the pollen so the two of them can set to work. Setting his arms akimbo for a moment as he watches the drone fly off, he finally begins his own collection of the pollen for this particular quest. Rui made his life a whole lot easier, he'll say that. He'll remember to thank him properly somehow, as a favor for the Fatui never goes unrewarded.]
I'm impressed! That worked like a charm. I suppose that's your specialty then? Building machines?
Its one of them. Probably the one I should focus on if I were to make the logical choice. However, my main specialty is directing! Immersing the audience in worlds and stories, making them feel strongly, and come away with unforgettable memories...that is my true calling. Compared to that building machines is more of a hobby.
[He pauses his collection while he speaks about theater to gesture broadly. When he's finished talking, he picks up the collection right where he left off.]
What about you? What's your specialty, Tartaglia-kun?
[He's met a few theater people here so far. How is he getting so lucky to find those in something he enjoys so much? Note to self to ask more about that in a minute.]
Battle, naturally.
[Says it like he's just breathing air or walking on two feet.]
To me, there's nothing more exhilarating than the feel of physical combat. Hah, I could do it all day...no, for days on end if I could.
I see. I suppose it's good that you have something that you like.
[Even though the fact that he's alone with someone who sounds so...battle hungry might be a little worrying. And he can't imagine liking something that hurts others...
Still...The idea that battle is so clearly his specialty? That sounds vaguely familiar actually. There was no harm in asking a weird follow up question.]
This may seem like an odd question, but...can you use chopsticks?
I believe so. Is your username "childe"? Mine is "StageAlchemist". I figured since I haven't met that many people who put fighting first, it was worth a shot to see if you're the same person.
[And its really all he remembers from that conversation, because it stood out to him. How can someone be coordinated enough to use multiple weapons, but be unable to use chopsticks? He still is amazed.]
That was me, yes. I'll hopefully be putting on a lot more shows like that here too. I've started a theater troupe with a new friend. We're working on our first show together now.
[Which is part of why Rui is doing this quest in the first place. Making the props and robots for the show isn't going to be cheap.]
Open auditions? I just might have to. I can't really dedicate myself full time to a troupe of sorts, but I certainly can find time to do a run of a show. I do have another job, as well as other things I'm involved in.
[He's going to...omit what all that entails because some of it is illegal but! At least if he auditions, he can't actually crash the stage...]
But we can worry about that later. I think I've gotten a good amount of pollen, how about yourself?
[Who knew a quest could go so smoothly FAMOUS LAST WORDS]
I see. Well, you're still welcome to audition if you want. I will say I can't guarantee that if you get in, you'd get a leading role or anything though if you're that busy. But if you pass the audition, I'll be willing to work with you to an extent.
[But for Rui, the show comes before anything else. He looks at his bag of jars of pollen, and nods.]
I think I'm good as well.
[He stands up, and bumps his head on the drone, which flips over, spilling sugar water on them both. See, the problem with auto pilot, is the drone doesn't know what area to stay away from, so it doubled back around at somepoint. Rui stares at the fallen drone with surprise for a moment, before hearing the buzzing of a bunch of wasps come their way. He grabs the drone and his bag and runs.]
[All's well that ends well, or so he thought. In his movement to turn to leave, he ends up next to Rui at the worst possible moment- the drone gets hit by his companion's head, and Tartaglia feels the water spill onto his clothes, looking down at it without much concern or realization to what's just happened. It's just water, it's no big deal-
-that is, until he hears the first buzzing from a little farther off. The realization hits him fully in the face at that moment, because he remembers the drone was leading the wasps away from them...and now the very thing that was used to lure them off is now all over them. Childe's eyes widen for only a moment before his head turns in the direction of the sound, gaining on them faster than he'd like.
The Harbinger takes off running, his mind not prepared to deal with a swarm of wasps that are barreling towards them in search of their sweet meal, and annoyed that these intruders were here in their territory.]
...There's got to be a way to get them off our backs-!
[Think, think! No way you're going to let a bunch of bugs best you here...!
He's not even sure if they can hide from them, and since they're out in the segment it's not like there's a house they can dive into. It's all woodlands from here.]
[Rui almost misses the question in his focus on trying not to get stung. He may have great stamina from all the performances he's put on....and running away from security because of said performances, but it'll run out sooner or later.]
Spring! I-I can control wind! What're you thinking?
[That question had to come from somewhere after all, and he is all ears for any plan right now.]
[Dying is definitely not on his to-do list today! Once they're in the open, Rui steels himself, and turns around, dropping the drone onto the grass. He channels the wind to start circling around the swarm. It takes a couple tries to get all the wasps in, but he works fast enough that none of them get the chance to sting either of them. Once they're all in the sphere of wind he's whipped up, he does his best to make that circle as small as possible and still hold them all.]
[He's definitely got to give it to Rui- he was almost certain that he was on the verge of getting caught by a wasp, but the wind picks up and swirls all of the pests into one vortex, essentially locking them in place for the Harbinger to target with ease. Childe turns, grins devilishly now that they've got no where to go, and releases both water and ice from his hands at the same time.
Every single wasp in that sphere gets frozen over, little wasp-shaped icicles that gleam in the sunlight.]
Heh.
[He takes a moment to admire his work, pleased with himself, before shooting a glance over to his companion.]
They won't stay like that for long, so it's best we beat it out of here before they rouse from their temporary slumber. But it should buy us enough time to escape.
[Rui looks at their odd ice sculpture for a moment, until Tartaglia's voice snaps him out of it. He grabs his drone again. It'll probably need some repairs from hitting the ground twice, but he can worry about specifics later.]
Yeah, Let's go.
[He doesn't need to be told twice to escape to start jogging away. They're a safe distance away when Rui slows down and chuckles breathlessly.]
Well, that was a bit more exciting than I had planned for this to be!
[He's been listening intently while they run for the sound of any buzzing, but he doesn't hear it. That frozen state they were in would likely keep them groggy as they melt out of it, so they can go terrorize someone else trying to collect pollen. He's sorry to the next poor sap that comes across their path- he's sure they won't be happy when they wake up.
But thankfully and finally, they get far enough away that they don't have to worry about dying to allergic bee stings, laughing a little as he tries to catch his breath. That was admittedly terrifying, but fun.]
Ah, I'll admit, even I wasn't expecting that kind of battle out of today. Never fought a swarm of wasps before...
I suppose next time I try to lead anything away, I should make sure the autopilot knows to stay away, huh?
[Although, he's not entirely sure how to do that without knowing the area first. He might have to go out into the segments more. That's not something he's really looking forward to considering how dangerous it is out here.]
I'm glad we teamed up though. If it were just me, I would've been done for...
[He'll let Rui figure out the details of how to keep his drone under control. Childe won't understand it all anyway, it's tech that's a little beyond him for the moment (until someone gives him his own drone, and oh my god please don't do that he won't use it for any good reasons.)]
Haha, you know we did make a pretty good team. You managed to sweep all of those pests up quite nicely. Ever consider learning to fight?
[He knows Rui does theater and stuff but hey, learning how to fight wouldn't be a bad thing, especially for fight scenes.]
Recently, I have, yes. As much as I hate the thought of hurting others, I do seem to be limited in where I can safely go without knowing how to fight. For example, I rarely go out into the segments like this because I know I can't protect myself.
[He sighs and shrugs.]
I don't know where I'd start learning such a thing though.
Well, battle doesn't necessarily mean fighting other people. Granted, it's a shame because you can learn so much from testing yourself against strong opponents like that, but...
[Rui's got a very good reason to want to learn to fight, so Childe's deemed this as a worthy enough reason to help.]
You maybe be able to get some combat instruction from the guilds. They do a lot of magic training too, so that may be a good place to start. Perhaps after you get a bit stronger, I can teach you some things myself.
[He says in the most cheeriest way possible, as if the possibility of pain might not exist don't fall for it]
